This presentation will look at research on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on water and energy demand conducted by three different organizations: The Pacific Institute, Raftelis in a partnership with Duke University, and the Center for Water-Energy Efficiency at the University of California, Davis. The talk will also explore related issues including how all the changes over the past year will impact state-wide water conservation goals.

A “water use report card” based on the latest data for California and the US will be presented that indicates positive as well as troubling trends. Looking forward, a review of emerging efficiency technologies and the conservation priorities and policies needed to meet our future water needs amidst chronic drought and climate change will be presented and discussed.

This Waterside chat will continue the discussions from the sessions held earlier in the day and provide opportunities for participants to share their thoughts, ideas, concerns, and hear how other utilities and communities are working through the many challenges we are facing today.  We have experienced empty buildings, increased residential use as employees work from home, drought, water shortages, rate changes, code or policy changes and many other demands from this past year of challenges.  Our presenters gave us so much to think about.  So now it is your turn!!
